Detailed day-by-day itinerary – 5 days Tanzania safari

DAY 01: ARUSHA – TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

Very early in the morning, your safari guide will pick you up from your accommodation in Arusha and drive you to Tarangire National park. One of the largest national parks in Tanzania is located in the Manyara region. This park covering approximately 2600 square kilometers is spectacular in the dry season when many of the migratory wildlife species come back to the permanent waters of the Tarangire River. Huge herds of wildebeest, zebras, elephants, eland, and oryx gather to stay in Tarangire until the onset of the rains when they migrate again to good grazing areas. Expect to encounter large herds of elephants while here that are accustomed to vehicles.  You will enjoy your lunch at the park and later have an evening game drive before heading to your accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay.

DAY 02 – 03: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK (SERONERA)

Following an early morning breakfast, you will head to Serengeti National Park in Central Seronera. This park is well known for its healthy stock of resident wildlife, particularly the “Big Five”: Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino, and Buffalo. Lions: Serengeti is believed to hold the largest population of lions in Africa due in part to the abundance of prey species. More than 3,000 lions live in this ecosystem. African Leopard: These reclusive predators are commonly seen in the Seronera region but are present throughout the national park with a population of around 1,000. A renowned UNESCO world heritage site is home to around 200,000 zebras, and 300,000 Thomson’s gazelle join the wildebeest’s trek for fresh grazing. Listen to the exotic sounds of over 6 million hooves pounding the open plains of Serengeti just like how you imagined African wildlife to be. Later in the afternoon, you will be taken to your booked accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay.

Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Following an early morning breakfast, you depart for the Ngorongoro conservation area, which sits at the rim of the Ngorongoro crater. An afternoon tour of the crater follows. The game drive begins with a 600m descent to the crater floor, a magnificent natural amphitheater. Covering 260 sq. km, the crater is an attraction in its own right and is one of the wonders of the natural world. The crater supports a year-round resident population of a variety of wildlife and you can easily spot lions, elephants, rhinos, buffalo, and other species of plain animals. The crater will truly leave you in awe of the beauty of creation as you will witness the existence of both carnivores and herbivores.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, and dinner

DAY 05: LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK – ARUSHA

After early morning breakfast at your accommodation, you will head out for an early morning game drive in Lake Manyara National Park where you will enjoy more of the sighting experience. The park covers 330 sq. km, 70% of which is occupied by the lake. The varied ecosystem consists of groundwater forests, acacia woodland, and open grassland along the lakeshore and sustains a wealth of wildlife, including the big five -lion, elephant, leopard, rhino, and buffalo. The park is famous for the elusive tree-climbing lions that inhabit the woodland between the lake and the rift valley. We head back to Arusha afterward.
