7 Days Luxury Congo Safari: Gorilla trekking & Nyiragongo Hike -For those who want to have the best of the Democratic Republic of Congo, this is the favorite package for you.
It grants you a chance to see two different species of Gorillas and also reach the top of the active Mount Nyiragongo. It starts from Rwanda to Kahuzi Biega, Virunga and then back to Kigali.
On arrival you will meet our driver at the airport. Transfer up to your hotel for a night stay in the capital.
Itinerary: 7 Days Luxury Congo Safari: Gorilla trekking & Nyiragongo Hike
Day 1: Pick up from Kigali – Transfer to Rusizi border
Early in the morning have breakfast. After check out to start the journey through Nyungwe forest. It takes about 6-7 hours for a drive from Kigali to DR Congo’s Rusizi border in the southern part of Rwanda.
Lunch is provided en route. You will reach the border and connect with our driver guide in DR Congo for further transfer to your hotel in Bukavu.
Day 2: Lowland Gorilla trek in Kahuzi Biega
After morning breakfast meet the driver for a drive to the park offices for the briefing. Later you start the journey to search for the Lowland Gorillas.
Time taken and distance moved depends on the location of your gorilla group. Once you see them, only one hour is allowed while in their presence. Make sure to come with packed lunch and drinking water. After return to the lodge for relaxation.
Day 3: Boat cruise from Bukavu – Goma City tour
Wake up early in the morning to start the boat trip from Bukavu to Goma. The cruise takes about three hours.
You will check in at the hotel for lunch and relaxation. Later you will do a tour around Goma city visiting numerous tourist spots. Dinner and night stay at Lac Kivu Lodge.
Day 4: Gorilla Trek in Virunga
Early in the morning check in with Virunga for the Gorilla trekking experience. The activity is awesome and grants you a chance to see the species of Mountain Gorillas. For those staying at Mikeno lodge there is an option of a village walk in the evening.
Day 5: Hike to the top of Nyiragongo
Very early in the morning after breakfast transfer to Kibati starting point. The journey to the top starts in the morning and takes about 6 – 7 hours.
It includes two stopovers before you reach the summit. Once at the top you enjoy the spectacular views of the surrounding scenery and the night burning molten Lava. Overnight at the summit.
Day 6: Descend back – Relax at Tchegera Island.
After a great night at the top you start the walk back. Transfer from Mikeno to Tchegera Island and spend the rest of the day relaxing and enjoying the calm atmosphere of this place. It enchants visitors with awe-inspiring views of the surrounding scenery including the towering volcanoes.
Day 7: Cross border – Transfer to Kigali
From Tchegera cross to Rwanda for your drive back to Kigali. Have lunch, visit the Kigali genocide memorial site and after enjoy the ride to the airport for your return flight.
